Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! We invite you to embrace our theme for the year,

“Firebird Story.” This year we celebrate 25 years of Fertitta being open in the Clark County

School District. This theme embraces the many chapters that have been written and shaped

our school over the years. It also acknowledges that every human who walks the halls of

Fertitta has a story. From students to families to staff, our stories come together on campus

to shape excellence in everything we do inside and outside of our classrooms. Our goal is to

ensure that this middle school chapter experience for all of our stakeholders promotes

challenges, perseverance, and excellence.

 

Over the past four years the Leadership Academy program has provided ALL students the opportunity to be involved on our campus in various ways and we will continue this journey in all grade levels, but it will look different this year. Due to our new 6-period block schedule, students in 6th grade with take Principles of Leadership for a semester, but 7th & 8th graders will only have Principles of Leadership as an elective option. However, we will incorporate leadership lessons and durable skill components like the Amazing Shake in other subject areas to continue our Leadership Academy vision. Students and families that meet the criteria of our Lead On program will be informed by administration and provided additional opportunities to support our school community. The requirements are the same as in past years and open to students that meet the criteria outlined in our Lead On program. Those students that complete the requirements will earn the Above & Beyond Award at the end of the year. Additionally, Lead On students are eligible for academic and non-academic grade level trips throughout the year as long as they continue to meet the requirements.

 

As we begin the new school year, remember that school will begin each morning at 7:30 a.m. and students will be allowed on campus beginning at 7:10 a.m. Fertitta is on a 6-Period block schedule, which means students will have four, 82-minute classes a day with the final dismissal bell sounding at 1:41 p.m. Our new bell schedule is on a 3-day rotation, which will take some getting used to but this schedule maximizes instructional minutes with only 6 periods. We expect students to complete all of their assignments, and we will not let students be satisfied with missing work or poor test grades. Please take time to identify our student handbook and refer to it often for assistance. We expect students to study and meet with their teachers or counselor if they begin to struggle with their work. We expect students to be leaders at all times, be good citizens at the Fertitta Leadership Academy, be positive role models to one another, and exhibit the FIREbird Way (Fertitta 15) daily on our campus. In addition, remember that a mandatory Standard Student Attire (SSA) is in place and all students must adhere to the policies posted on our website. Student safety is a top priority and all students will be required to wear a lanyard with their student ID daily. Finally, cell phone pouches are available for all students to secure their cell phones and be free of distraction during the instructional day. If a cell phone is out during instructional time, it will be confiscated and a parent/guardian will be required to pick it up from the SSS Office.

 

Middle school is an experience like no other! You will participate in amazing student assemblies, engaging activities, and student recognition programs. Make sure you join clubs, activities and athletic teams to meet new friends and take pride in your school. Your positive attitude and involvement in the school builds school spirit and allows you to be a part of greatness! Our staff is committed to ensuring your success, and we will never give up on you!
